The objective of my project is to take a symbolic interaction sort of approach to see how the city of Lexington has influenced the lives of its citizens, and how they've affected the city. I want to know how being in a college city has swayed the decision of students to go to college, and if they wanted to stay in state. I want to know how many of us have lived in Lexington our entire lives. I want to know how many of us are living comfortably and how many of us are struggling. I want to know the aspirations of our citizens, and what they want to do to better our community.
And that's just a start.
So far, I've read two books and began shaping my questionnaire. I plan to include questions that are rather straightforward, such as birthplace, age, and sex, as well as including some more opinion related questions that would refer to the person's experience in Lexington, if they want to leave, if they would return to have a family here, if they feel it is more liberal or conservative.
My mentor Mrs. Perry once told me that she received a 42 page survey in the mail similar to what I've been looking to make. Obviously, I don't want it to be so long, but I imagine it will be rather lengthy.
I'm fearful that I won't be able to find people willing to help me due to lack of interest in my project, but hopefully there will be a few people out there who will help me out.
